In a recent Interview at 1.am (Առաջին լրատվական),  the head of Peace Dialogue NGO, Edgar Khachatryan, discussed the ongoing reforms in the Armenian military service and emphasised the importance of considering the country’s geopolitical orientation in the process.

Khachatryan underscored that the government must prioritise defining a clear perspective for the future of the country and its military service. He raised important questions that should be addressed by the government, including;

“How do we want to see our country in the future?”

He also questioned the government’s steps to prevent further escalation of conflicts within the army, stating;

“What actions does the government take to prevent further escalating steps in the army?”

In a democratic country, it is essential to have a formulated perspective to ensure clarity on how the military service should operate. Khachatryan highlighted that without a clear perspective, there will always be questions that need to be addressed.

Reflecting on Peace Dialogue NGOs actions, Khachatryan emphasised that the road to peace is challenging and requires consistent communication with state actors to achieve a peaceful solution;

“Our primary goal is to take actions that lead to reaching a peaceful solution by keeping communication with the state actors,” he stated.

Peace Dialogue NGO is committed to promoting peace and is working closely with the government and other state actors to achieve sustainable and peaceful outcomes. In light of the 44-day war and the unresolved issues that have followed, it is crucial to prioritise the interests of all citizens and address the root causes of the conflict to promote lasting peace and stability in the region.
